The California Supreme Court has appointed two new members to the Commission on Judicial Performance, an independent state agency responsible for investigating complaints of judicial misconduct or incapacity and for disciplining judges.

The California Supreme Court today announced the reappointment of three current members and the appointment of a new member to fill a vacancy on the Supreme Court Committee on Judicial Ethics Opinions (CJEO).

Judge Lench, who was recently named vice chair of the commission, was reappointed to serve another four-year term.

Justice Kelli Evans also sworn in as an associate justice of the California Supreme Court

Justice Guerrero must now be elected by voters at the Nov. 8 general election. If elected, she would be the first Latina to serve as Chief Justice of California.

Former California Supreme Court Justice John A. Arguelles, a member of the Class of 1954, died at his home on April 10. He was 94.

Arguelles was the first UCLA Law alumnus to serve on the state’s highest court and only the second Hispanic Justice on the court.

Guerrero is the first Latina justice to serve on the state's high court. She was sworn in by Governor Newsom on March 28, 2022.

The Joint Supreme Court/State Bar Blue Ribbon Commission on the Future of the California Bar Exam will develop recommendations on whether to make changes to the California Bar Exam.

SAN FRANCISCO—The Commission on Judicial Appointments will hold a hearing today starting at 1 p.m. to consider the appointment of Justice Martin J. Jenkins (Ret.) to the Supreme Court of California.

Praised for his "brilliant intellect, first-class temperament, and boundless humanity," Justice Jenkins makes history as the first openly gay California Supreme Court justice and only the third African American man to serve on the state’s highest court.
