Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye, chair of the Commission on Judicial Appointments, announced that the commission today unanimously confirmed the appointment of Judge Thomas Delaney as associate justice of the Fourth District Court of Appeal, Division Three (Santa Ana).

The Commission on Judicial Appointments will hold a public hearing on Oct. 11 at 10 a.m. to consider Judge Thomas Delaney as Associate Justice of the Fourth District Court of Appeal, Division Three (Santa Ana).

Justice Guerrero must now be elected by voters at the Nov. 8 general election. If elected, she would be the first Latina to serve as Chief Justice of California.

SAN DIEGO—Associate Justice Judith Haller of the Court of Appeal, Fourth Appellate District, Division One, will retire on Oct. 31 after 28 years on the appellate bench.

Justice Haller was appointed by Gov. Pete Wilson to the Court of Appeal in 1994. Prior to her appointment to the Court of Appeal, she was appointed by Gov. George Deukmejian to the San Diego County Superior Court, where she served as a trial court judge for five years.

Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye appointed one new voting member and four new advisory (non-voting) members to the Judicial Council. She also reappointed three voting members.

The Commission on Judicial Appointments will hold two virtual public hearings on Aug. 3 to consider appointments to Sacramento and Ventura-based appeals courts.
