California Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye on Tuesday honored Judicial Council Administrative Director Martin Hoshino with the Chief Justice Award for Exemplary Service and Leadership, which honors an individual or organization for outstanding service to the judicial branch.

The Supreme Court of California on Friday announced appointments to three State Bar of California entities: the Board of Trustees, Committee of Bar Examiners, and the State Bar Court.

SAN DIEGO—Associate Justice Judith Haller of the Court of Appeal, Fourth Appellate District, Division One, will retire on Oct. 31 after 28 years on the appellate bench.

Justice Haller was appointed by Gov. Pete Wilson to the Court of Appeal in 1994. Prior to her appointment to the Court of Appeal, she was appointed by Gov. George Deukmejian to the San Diego County Superior Court, where she served as a trial court judge for five years.

Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye appointed one new voting member and four new advisory (non-voting) members to the Judicial Council. She also reappointed three voting members.

The council also approved the latest plan for new courthouse construction.

“This year’s budget represents an unprecedented investment in our judicial branch,” said Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye.
