    The court decided 55 cases by opinion during the term. In only four of those cases was there a dissent. There was a single 7-0 opinion in 47 cases. In three cases, all seven justices signed the court’s opinion, but one or two justices separately concurred.

    (Subscription required) According to its Year in Review report on Monday, the court issued 55 written opinions between Sept. 1, 2022, and Aug. 31 of this year. This includes 27 written opinions for the summer period of June, July and August. While these are low numbers by historical standards, they represent a significant jump from the 49 written opinions the court delivered over the same period a year earlier.

  • L.A. County: Zero bail takes effect Sunday amid lingering concerns

    Law enforcement officials and some residents continued to express safety concerns Tuesday about the imminent implementation of zero bail in Los Angeles County, but backers of the plan told the Board of Supervisors that misinformation about the system is leading to unfounded perceptions that crime will increase and criminals won't be held accountable.
