Preliminary Report Updates Priority List for New Courthouse Construction Projects
What: At its meeting this week, the council’s Court Facilities Advisory Committee will receive a draft report with an updated priority list (on page 82 of the report) for new courthouse construction projects statewide. The report will detail the scoring process and criteria considered.
The committee expects to post the draft report for public comment until September 13; the committee will then consider a final draft of the report at its October 1 meeting. If approved, the committee will submit the report to the Judicial Council for consideration at its November business meeting. The council expects to submit the final report to the Legislature by the end of December.
When: Thursday, August 29, 10a.m. – 2p.m.
Where: Judicial Council Boardroom, 3rd floor, Ronald M. George State Office Building, 455 Golden Gate Ave., San Francisco
(NOTE: A link to a live webcast of the meeting will be available on the Court Facilities Advisory Committee webpage.)
Why: Before it will allocate any further funding for new courthouse construction, the Legislature required the Judicial Council to reassess its priority list for new projects. In collaboration with local courts, a working group from the Judicial Council’s Court Facilities Advisory Committee and its staff oversaw the reassessment of hundreds of court facilities throughout the state. The process included a lengthy self-assessment by each court of their operations and the potential implications of new courthouse construction.
