• Megan Reed Appointed New Court Executive Officer at Lassen County Superior Court

    Ms. Reed has been a resident of Lassen County for thirty-two years attending local schools and
    is a Lassen High School graduate. She has been employed with the Lassen Superior Court for
    eighteen years starting out as a file clerk and advancing through the court to include supervisory
    roles leading up to her being named Acting Court Executive Officer for the past three months.

  • Crane to rise over Ukiah as new courthouse construction advances

    According to the Superior Court of California, a 265-foot crane will be erected at the site of the future courthouse on East Perkins Street this week. The new crane will be visible throughout the city, altering Ukiah’s skyline. The crane will be an integral part of building the 3-story, 82,000-square-foot courthouse. 

  • L.A. Area Cities Lose Bid to Overturn Affordable Housing Law

Four of this district’s Court of Appeal has held that judgment was properly entered against four general law cities in Los Angeles County challenging Senate Bill 9 which greenlights splitting lots zoned for single-family homes into two-unit properties and guts the authority of local governments to review the transition, finding that they failed to show that any constitutional provision was breached by the Legislature’s action.

  • Law Against Watching Event Likely Violates Reporter’s Rights

    The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals held yesterday that a journalist is likely to succeed on his claim asserting that an Alameda County ordinance criminalizing being a spectator at “sideshows”—defined as street races or reckless driving exhibitions that block or impede traffic on a street or highway—violates his First Amendment right to report on the events.
