Only half of performance gains seen after using a more advanced AI model come from the model itself. The other half come from how users adapted their prompts.

The measure, which has passed the Senate and is awaiting a vote in the Assembly, is among the first in the country to address law enforcement’s use of AI to produce incident reports. Proponents of the bill say it’s critical to understand how police reports are created, given their key role in the criminal justice system.

The settlement, approved Monday by U.S. District Court Judge Otis D. Wright II in Kidd v. Noem, prohibits ICE officers in the agency’s Los Angeles Field Office from falsely claiming to be state or local law enforcement or misrepresenting the nature of their visit in order to enter a home or persuade a resident to come outside.
