A California State Bar committee is calling for state lawmakers to consider regulations on non-lawyer use of AI legal products and recommending guidance for attorneys who use the technology.

The State Bar of California has received nearly 3,000 public comments on a proposal to allow law school graduates to become licensed without taking the bar exam – with most of those opposing the potential change.

(Subscription required) Since taking the bench in January 2021, Djemal has mainly worked on criminal matters and is currently one of two judges handling collaborative courts. These help people with drug and alcohol addictions get into treatment and out of the justice system.

(Subscription required) JAMS President Kimberly Taylor said she was initially surprised to hear that the court’s case filings were down based on the healthy growth the ADR provider has seen nationally in both mediation and arbitration. In the San Francisco Bay Area, in particular, Taylor said, arbitrations are “up a lot.”
