California courts give low-income jurors $15 per day. As a result, people with financial hardships are excused, leading to juries that often fail to reflect local demographics. A bill on the governor’s desk would expand a San Francisco pilot program and up the rate to $100 in four new counties.

Solano County Superior Court officials have made it easier to pay traffic fines. They adopted the California Judicial Council’s new MyCitations: Ability to Pay tool, an online option for people having difficulty paying fines for traffic infractions.

California courts in seven counties on Monday launched the CARE Act, a new pathway to deliver mental health treatment and support services to the most vulnerable Californians. The law established a new, non-criminal proceeding that authorizes certain people—such as family members or first responders—to petition a civil court for treatment and services for those with untreated schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders.
