Following Governor Jerry Brown's signing of the 2018-19 Budget Act, Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye released this statement:

"The judicial branch budget presented by the Legislature and signed by the Governor represents a tremendous investment in providing equal access to justice for all Californians.

I want to acknowledge the dedication and perseverance of judicial officers, court executives and staff, Judicial Council staff, attorneys, and justice system partners who, through good times and bad, have doggedly advocated for adequately funding California’s courts.

This year’s stellar result for the branch would not have been possible without the Judicial Council’s Administrative Director Martin Hoshino. Martin’s leadership skills in government and his singular determination as a public servant to do the most good for the most people have led us to this very welcome 2018-2019 State Budget."
