When appointed in 2011, Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye chose to make civics education a priority.
Gov. Gavin Newsom's first budget includes nearly $470 million in new judicial branch funding.
"This budget...will help courts continue initiatives that help break down barriers for all Californians seeking justice," she said.
