Chief Justice Names Group to Review Workplace Conduct in the Judicial Branch
Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye on Thursday created a new work group to study and make recommendations for how the judicial branch can prevent and address harassment, discrimination, or inappropriate workplace conduct.
The eight-member group of judicial officers, court executive officers, and attorneys will consider new rules of court or policies to increase awareness of prohibited conduct, reporting requirements, and resources to address harassment and discrimination. The group will also evaluate and consider changes to existing training requirements and courses.
“Institutions and industries across our country, including our judicial branch, have rightfully been focusing on issues of harassment and discrimination in the workplace,” said Chief Justice Cantil-Sakauye. “I am appointing this work group to ensure that we are on the right track in our efforts to ensure our own workplaces are safe for all employees and free of inappropriate behavior.”
The Chief Justice asked the group to seek input from judicial officers and judicial branch employees and research best practices for ensuring workplaces free of harassment and discrimination. She asked the group to report back to her with recommendations sometime next year.
The members of the Work Group for the Prevention of Discrimination and Harassment include:
- Justice Brad Hill, Co-chair, Administrative Presiding Justice, Court of Appeal, Fifth Appellate District (Fresno)
- Judge Stacy Boulware Eurie, Co-chair, Superior Court of Sacramento County
