On October 24, 2019, the Santa Clara Superior Court hosted its sixth annual Educators Day, which brought together approximately 100 superintendents, principals and other educational administrators from around the county to discuss issues at the intersection of education and the law. This year’s topics included mandatory reporting, LGBTQ issues, Safe and Healthy Schools: vaping and e-cigarettes, and a panel discussion focused on sexual assault in schools.

“Educators Day is intended to bring together experts to provide information and resources for educators to assist them in handling complicated issues they must address on the front lines, long before those issues may wind their way into the court system,” commented Hon. Julia Alloggiamento, Chair of the Court’s Community Outreach and Planning Committee.

As an added opportunity for participants, the Santa Clara Superior Court gathered together community organizations during the lunch hour, providing a chance for educators to connect with the many resources available to them in our county. The organizations included the Korematsu Institute, the Asian Law Alliance, the Santa Clara County Probation Department’s Peer Court, the Santa Clara County Bar Association, the Santa Clara Superior Court, and the Santa Clara County Office of Education.

Educators Day is a great opportunity to bring together local school leaders, judges and justice partners to discuss cutting edge issues affecting young people in our community. We all learn something new in the process.
