Judicial Council Meeting

SAN FRANCISCO—The Judicial Council at its July 15 meeting will consider recommendations on how to allocate funding to the trial courts included in the most recent state budget signed by Gov. Newsom last week.

The recommendations for fiscal year 2022–23 include how to allocate funding for 23 new judgeships, employee benefits, and court construction and maintenance, as well as backfill money to compensate for a reduction in civil assessment fee revenue.

The recommendations use an established formula based on court workload to allocate the funding.

Other items on the July 15 council meeting agenda include:

Budget Change Proposals: The council will consider funding requests for fiscal year 2023–24 that include collaborative justice programs, self-help centers, language access, and courthouse construction and maintenance.

Plan for Building New Courthouses: The council will consider a five-year plan that forms the basis for funding requests for new courthouse projects.

The complete meeting agenda and council reports are posted to the California Courts Meeting Information Center.

Masks will be required for all participants and attendees. Comments on action items should be emailed to judicialcouncil@jud.ca.gov at least two business days before the meeting so that council members can consider the comments before voting. An additional 30-minute public comment period is reserved at the end of the meeting.

A link to a live webcast of the meeting will be on the California Courts website on the day of the meeting.
