Div. Three of the Court of Appeal for this district has declared that in deciding whether a prevailing party is entitled to an award of attorney fees based on legal work done by his or her attorney/spouse, the inquiry should not be whether a true attorney-client relationship existed, as held in two cases, but whether the property in question is a community asset. 

This year it’s apparent that the California Supreme Court has settled into a new normal. As our results show, over the past five years the court’s metrics in general have been rather consistent.

According to the California Highway Patrol, drivers should be prepared for new traffic laws aimed at improving safety on both highways and local streets.

California’s ban on the open carry of firearms in most parts of the state is unconstitutional, a San Francisco-based federal appeals court ruled Friday. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals determined that the ban, which applied to counties with populations greater than 200,000, violates residents’ 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms. Under those regulations, 95% of the state’s population was subject to the ban.
