A public meeting will provide information about the current status of the new Porterville courthouse, due to start construction early next year. At the meeting, the public and other interested parties will hear about the project’s current status, results from an archaeological survey performed earlier this summer, overall efforts to preserve cultural resources should any be found during construction, and local outreach and prequalification efforts that the contractor has been undertaking prior to construction bidding.
Who: The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC), Office of Court Construction and Management, in partnership with the Superior Court of Tulare County, will present project information, review results of the archaeological study, and introduce a representative of the construction-manager-at-risk, Sundt. Interested parties may ask questions and provide comments.
When: Wednesday, October 5, 2011, 5–7 p.m.
Where: Porterville City Council Chambers, 291 North Main Street, Porterville
Why: The new Porterville courthouse will be a four-story building housing nine courtrooms in approximately 96,500 square feet, at 300 East Olive Avenue. The new building will improve access to justice for court users as the South Justice Center for the Superior Court of Tulare County, with improved security, adequate space, and expanded services. The project is also anticipated to contribute to the revitalization of downtown Porterville, and its upcoming construction represents an economic opportunity for local subcontractors and suppliers. Contingent on the sale lease-revenue bonds to fund construction in early November, construction is scheduled to commence early next year and be completed in late 2013. The project, managed by the AOC, is funded from the State Court Facilities Construction Fund, with no impact on the state’s General Fund.
