Prosecutors say dangerous criminals won’t be punished under public safety bill

(Subscription required) Prosecutors are asking Gov. Gavin Newsom to veto a bill they say would threaten public safety and impose a financial burden on the state by allowing repeat convicted drunken drivers, elder abusers and those convicted of weapons charges and hate crimes to have their cases dismissed after completing a diversion program.
