State officials downplay execution obstacles, ACLU report says

Newly released documents on California’s plans to resume executions of condemned inmates show that state officials have understated the cost and the difficulty of obtaining lethal drugs and downplayed the likelihood of botched executions, the American Civil Liberties Union reported Tuesday.

On Thursday the California Assembly is expected to vote on whether to place a question on the November ballot targeting the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision. That's the controversial 2010 ruling in which the court held that the 1st Amendment allows corporations to spend unlimited amounts on independent election-related expenditures.
